YOUNGSTERS at Wellington School have been helping people on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean hit by Hurricane Irma.

Prep school pupils held a fundraising day to support victims in the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

Children were invited to take part in a non-uniform day – wearing wellies in keeping with the theme of the storm – and a welly-boot throwing competition and a cake sale were also held.

The school also held a ‘row-a-thon’ which raised more than £430, pupils and teachers aiming to row the length of the island, a total of 26km, during a day.

The Senior School held a mufti day and raised almost £1,500 for people on the island of Domenica, where 22 school students were involved in a conservation and research project with Operation Wallacea this summer.

All their camps and bases have been destroyed, as well as much of the reef they dived off. They hope some of the funds will make a difference to people the hurricane made homeless.
