SCHOOLBOY Lenny Old, of Buckwell, Wellington, was overjoyed when he wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron explaining his idea for stopping terrorist attacks and received a letter back from 10 Downing Street.
Lenny, 11, who attends Wellesley Park Primary School, was shocked when he saw television reports of the attacks on Brussels Airport and a city metro station.
His idea was for an x-ray machine in closed circuit television cameras at the entrance to possible terrorist targets that could spot someone carrying guns or bombs.
Lenny said: “I wrote to the prime minister because all these innocent people died for no reason. We are all different countries – why can’t we just be friendly instead of nasty?”
Lenny, who says he loves technology and was last year’s year 5 digital leader at school, visited emailnumber10.gov.uk and filled out a comment form, heading it ‘Suicide Bombers’.
He began: “I appreciate you are busy running the country but I would like to hear what you think about my suggestion.”
A few days later, when he received a reply from Number 10, Lenny ripped open the envelope in excitement. The letter expressed interest in his idea and praised how much thought he had put into his suggestion. It also wished him well with his studies.
Mum Zoe said the letter would be framed and hoped Lenny would earn a few extra house points when he took the letter into school this week after the Easter holidays.
Lenny loves football – he plays Wellington AFC Under-11s and follows Barcelona – and also plays rugby, tennis and hockey. He was also elected captain of Mohican House at school this year.
