SHOPS and businesses in Wellington have been urged to think more about the use of A-frame advertising boards on pavements.
Members of Wellington Town Council heard at their latest meeting that the bulky boards clutter up pavements and prove an unwanted nuisance for people with prams and buggies, and those with visual impairments.
Town clerk Greg Dyke said: “Somerset County Council has a policy about the use of A-frames but it doesn’t seem to be enforcing it. I have got in touch with them about the problem but nothing seems to be done. We have spoken to a couple of businesses about it but we could write to all the shops and say that the issue has been brought to our attention.”
Mr Dyke said he hoped shopkeepers would be more ‘circumspect’ in where they put their A-frames.
Deputy Mayor of Wellington Cllr Janet Lloyd added: “Some of these A-frames are pretty big and pretty sturdy. They are all over the place and they are a real hazard for some people.”
