LAST week saw the culmination of eight weeks work brought to the stage at Wellington Arts Centre in ‘Once Upon a Musical’.
Directed and choreographed by Ashleigh Payne, 17, this wonderful evening of entertainment brought full houses and rapturous applause for the cast. In a fast paced, professionally performed journey through the best loved and lesser known musicals the audience was treated to song and dance and a plethora of quick costume changes!
Each number highlighted the talents of a soloist, duet or group number which were chosen for their suitability to the age, experience and talents of the huge cast.
The Junior Chorus performed with skill, accuracy, enjoyment and dedication and showed the promise that the outstanding work that is done under the umbrella of the Wellington Arts Association will continue for many years to come.
‘Once upon a Musical’ was the dream and vision of one extraordinary young man. Ashleigh Payne proved an experience beyond his years in pulling together such a fantastic and professional evening. There was, as always, a team of supporters and technicians helping it all come to life but the main credit must go to this young man.
This week sees the launch party for the next extravaganza, Guys and Dolls. Come along to the Arts Centre on Thursday at 7.30pm to get involved.
