A SMALL but appreciative audience welcomed the Somerset Songsters to Hemyock parish church for a concert organised by the Friends of St Mary’s, who also served refreshments.

Music varied from barbershop and folk to well-loved songs from films such as Calamity Jane, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, and songs made famous by, among others, Cliff Richard, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy Steele and even Laurel and Hardy.
The occasional addition of hats and items of costume added a new dimension.
The introductions were brief and witty, and singers’ diction was remarkably good.
