CINEMA Obscura at Wiveliscombe is concluding its season on Sunday (April 14) with Summer 1993 (12A) directed by Carla Simon.
Six-year-old Frida looks on in silence as the last objects from her recently deceased mother’s apartment in Barcelona are placed in boxes.
Although her aunt, uncle and younger cousin welcome her with open arms, Frida finds it hard to forget her mother and adapt to her new home in the Catalan countryside. Before the summer is over, she has to cope with her emotions and her parents have to learn to love her as their own daughter.
Based on the director’s own childhood, this film won Best First Feature prize at the Berlin Film Festival.
The film is in Spanish Catalan with English subtitles and will be screened at Wiveliscombe Primary School Hall. Guest membership is £5 for each film – doors open 7pm and the film starts 7.30pm after a very short annual meeting.
