TWENTY is plenty along Pyles Thorne Road in Wellington, says a retired policeman concerned about speeding vehicles.

Peter Townsend, who served 32 years with the Metropolitan Police in London, says he has been struck twice by the mirrors of speeding vehicles in the 14 months he has lived in the road.

He said: “I cannot be the only one to have experienced this – residents and other pedestrians using the road take their lives in their hands every day as speeding vehicles pass them.”

Mr Townsend, who has contacted town councillors about the issue, added that towards the end of last year a young child had been knocked down but luckily not seriously injured at the bottom of the road near Pyles Thorne Close.
