WELLINGTON man Stanley Williams, who was a Spitfire pilot in Burma on VJ Day 1945, attended the celebrations in London – and took part in the service at Horse Guards Parade, paraded along Whitehall to Westminster Abbey and enjoyed the reception held by the British Legion.

The highlight of the day was the thousands of people who turned out to cheer the veterans – 70 years after the Forgotten Army came home, and talking to Prince Charles at the reception. He was genuinely interested in his story.
