FOR this year’s musical, Wellington Arts Centre is putting on a performance of the classic feel-good story School of Rock, which is set to show at the Wellesley from May 21-24.

The Wellington Weekly News had the chance to see the production coming together in rehearsals, when a magnificent cast lit up the stage.

Both the secretary for the Wellington Arts Association and a stand-out performer, Kiera Chard, does wonders for the character of Ms Mullins, side-by-side with the excellent Michael Cole who plays our beloved protagonist Dewey Finn.

Beth Burrows’ direction is nothing but energetic and entirely appropriate for the popular tale about the power of music. If the rehearsal was anything to go on, viewers will not be disappointed by seeing the arts centre’s performance in all its glory.

Small town guitarist Dewey Finn (Michael Cole) gets thrown out of his bar band and finds himself in desperate need of work.

Using his brother’s name, Dewey poses as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, where he teaches his students about hard rock, much to the consternation of the uptight principal (Kiera Chard).

As the students become more in touch with their inner rock 'n' roll animals, Dewey seeks redemption at a local Battle of the Bands.
