THIS year’s Wellington Street Fair – at which town mayor Gary James paid tribute to the victims of recent terrorist atrocities in Manchester and London – has been hailed by organisers as the best yet.

The event on Sunday, which opened with a speech by Cllr James when victims of the attacks were remembered, raised about £2,500 to ensure Wellington Carnival can go ahead on Saturday, September 30.

Thousands of visitors enjoyed a full day of entertainment in High Street and South Street, and the more than 83 stalls and attractions on offer. Chairman Dave Rylatt said: “This was probably the most successful event we have held.”
