HUNDREDS of pounds has been raised at a coffee morning in Wellington as a thank-you for the medical care a premature baby received.
Cooper Patterson-Bright was only 1lb 4oz when he was born and given just a 15 per cent chance of survival. His mums, Abbie and American wife Staci, live in Worcestershire but have lots of family and friends in the Wellington area – Abbie spent the first 35 years of her life in the town – and they both visit frequently.
The coffee morning, organised by Claire Southcott at her home in Linden Hill, Wellington, raised £760 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
She said: “Cooper is an amazing, strong, brave little boy and we are so proud of him and Abbie and Staci. The coffee morning was a huge success – we had lots of home-made cakes, book table, water or wine and arm wrestling.
“We also had some fantastic raffle prizes and a gorgeous Brakeburn bag kindly given by Mad Dog in South Street, Wellington, for auction – this went home with Staci’s mum to America. We had some amazing clothes for sale and our garden bar was kept busy. We are so chuffed that we raised £760.”
This donation has been added to the £1,000 already raised and the next event is a jumble sale on Saturday, November 10, at the Wellington Castle Hall, Fore Street 10am-noon.
Cooper was born about 16 weeks early in December 2016. The WWN has previously reported that he spent 384 days in five hospitals across the country, had eight life support interventions, seven critical care ambulance transfers and four surgeries.
