The Prom for leavers from Court Fields School, Wellington, took place last week – a year after the students had left.

Lockdown meant they were unable to celebrate moving on to the next stage in life in 2020 but the school decided they should not miss out altogether.

About 70 of the year 12 students enjoyed a carvery and danced the night away with a disco. The school’s usual Prom venue was unable to accommodate so many with social distancing in force, but the Beambridge Inn helped out.

“It was lovely to be able to give our Year 12s the celebration and send off they deserve,” said headteacher Polly Matthews. “It was fantastic to see so many of them again – it was a really celebratory occasion for them and for the staff.”

All the students turned up in their finery and a few arrived with unconventional transport – one, Ellie Popplestone, who is now an apprentice at a riding stables, came on horseback.

So although the end of their time at Court Fields in 2020 was ‘unceremonious’, and they did not have the chance to say goodbye, they made up for lost time last week.

Lots of photos in tomorrow’s WWN.
