A Wellington pensioner had to be given treatment for smoke inhalation after toast caught fire in a toaster on Easter Sunday morning.

Firefighters were mobilised at 11.44am after callers reported a house fire in Improvement Place in the town.

On arrival there were no immediate signs of fire, and after initial investigations, crews found that there was a fire involving burnt toast in a toaster.

Fire Service personnel removed the toaster to the open.

Ambulance crews were also in attendance and treated an elderly occupant at the scene.
