A COUNCILLOR has been told that nothing would ever be done if people always worried about vandalism.

Mary Kembery, the arts co-ordinator for Stable Arts, is interested in creating a project working with service users from Meadowbank Day Service at Nynehead.

She has approached Wellington Town Council for support and ideas about a suitable location for the artwork which would be produced as a result of the project.

Cllr Marcus Barr, speaking at the latest council meeting, said: “My concerns are that it would get vandalised.”

But town clerk Greg Dyke said: “We wouldn’t do anything if we all took that view.”

Mary is hoping to create a mosaic for public display. The project would be under the tuition of an artist who has experience with working with people with learning difficulties.

She is seeking a permanent public site in or around Wellington to display the artwork.

Cllr Ben Shepherd suggested that perhaps the front window of an empty shop would be an ideal location.

Mary has indicated that she intends to get sponsorship from local businesses to cover expenses, materials and tutor fees for the project.
