THE mystery appearance of wooden benches placed in open spaces in Wellington has been solved.

Unbeknown to the town council, the benches have been installed by Somerset West and Taunton Council.

The benches are not very big and would appear to be for use by children. They have appeared at Roly Poly Green, the sports centre (left), The Basins and the big field opposite Oakfield Park.

No-one told us about the benches and I eventually found out by ringing Somerset West and Taunton Council,” said Dave Farrow, clerk of Wellington Town Council, yesterday.

“It was only then that I found out it was them. You would have thought they would have told us.”
