MORE than £50,000 has been awarded to Wellington Town Council to support the delivery of two new community projects.
Donated through the Accelerated Reform Fund (ARF) and the Somerset Association of Local Councils Health & Wellbeing Fund, a total of £51,000 was given to facilitate the delivery of Wellington Cares and Together in Tone.
The ARF, via the Somerset Community Foundation, donated £41,000 to the Wellington Cares project, a new community-based initiative that supports unpaid carers and residents who need extra help to stay connected.
The funding is set to help Wellington Town Council develop a local community directory of support and services, run an awareness campaign and bring community partners and volunteers together to reduce isolation.
The 12-month pilot project will be delivered from the Kings Arms Community Hub, working closely with Somerset Council, Spark Somerset, Wellington One Team and more.
The Somerset Association of Local Councils Health & Wellbeing Fund would give £10,000 for the delivery of Together in Tone, which sets out to be a musical collaboration for wellbeing.
It will bring together choirs, musicians, and community groups from across the Wellington and Wiveliscombe Local Community Networks, connecting people through music.
Together in Tone aims to support the wellbeing of others through creativity and social connection, encouraging participation across all ages and backgrounds, and celebrate local talent through community performances.
The project will be delivered in partnership with the Wellington and Wiveliscombe Local Community Network and Actiontrack, a dynamic arts organisation based in Taunton. It will include workshops, shared performances, and a legacy directory of local music groups.
A spokesperson for Wellington Town Council said: “We’re excited to see the difference this will make for Wellington’s residents — creating a more caring, connected, and supported community.
“We’re thrilled to be leading this exciting collaboration and can’t wait to see the community come ‘Together in Tone’.”
