THE town council in Wellington should take over some of the services currently run by Taunton Deane Borough Council and Somerset County Council.
This is the opinion of town councillor Marcus Barr. Speaking at the council’s December meeting he said the council should take over assets such as Wellington Park and the town’s public toilets. “We should be responsible for things in our town instead of blaming Taunton Deane,” he added.
The Deane is consulting town/parish councils, community groups and the voluntary sector over the possible transfer of assets to them from the Deane, which is trying to cut its expenditure on a wide range of services.
The county council and the Deane will not continue to run all their present services and communities will have to decide what facilities they wish to see continue and will have to pay for them in the future.
