WIVELISCOMBE has joined the ranks of a national organisation aiming to put thousands of water bottle refill spots on the map through local communities.
Judy Crosher, West Somerset organiser of the Refill Scheme, said a scheme has now been set up in the town’s shops and pubs so that people can easily refill their plastic bottles with tap water and help prevent millions of new ones going into circulation.
The scheme has a blue sticker that Judy has asked the town shops to display, and she is hoping to get village shops in the area doing the same.
“There are not that many shops and pubs but they have been very welcoming and receptive, and there are now 11 places in Wivey doing the scheme, which is very good,” Judy said.

“If just one in ten Brits refilled once a week, we’d have 340 million less plastic bottles a year in circulation,” the website says.
“Together our community-based Refill Schemes have put thousands of Refill Stations on the map, working in their local community and helping to stop millions of plastic bottles at source.”
