WELLINGTON Museum has opened for the 2018 season and is looking forward to welcoming visitors interested in finding out more about the town’s history.

The museum is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and on Saturday 10am to 1pm until September 29, although it will be shut on Bank Holidays.

“The exhibits in the museum feature famous firms and individuals that are or were based in Wellington,” said a museum spokesman. “There are displays on the Duke of Wellington and his association with the town.”

The museum is at 28 Fore Street and is run by Wellington Local History and Museum Society which also holds talks and visits to promote the town and publishes books on local topics. The Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Gary James and his wife Bee, were delighted to attend the official opening of the museum for another year.

The Mayor told members of Wellington Town Council: “The new carpet installed at the museum during the winter really complements the decor and congratulations should go to all the volunteers who give up their time and energy keeping the museum a focal point for visitors and locals alike.”

The next event lined up by Wellington Local History and Museum Society is at Wellington Prep School Hall tomorrow (Thursday) , from 7.30pm when Tom Harris will give a talk on 3,000 years of bells being used to call people to prayer. Admission is £2 members and £3 non-members.

Later in the year the museum will open from October 1 to November 3 from 11am to 3pm Monday to Friday and then from 10am to 1pm on Saturday.

From November 10 to December 1 the museum will only open on Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
