A NEW petanque court, beside the sports centre, has been officially opened in Wellington by the Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams.

The event took place on Thursday and the first boule was delivered by Mary Wood.

Mayor of Wellington Cllr Bob Bowrah, who also attended the opening, said the court had been built at the request of the residents of Wellington and had been funded by Section 106 contributions for outdoor recreation from developments in the town.

“The support of the town council, U3A (University of the Third Age), the community leisure officer, Debbie Arscott, and executive councillor for Sports, Parks and Leisure Cllr Catherine Herbert have all contributed to the successful conclusion of this asset to the town.

“JTT Contractors from Exeter have done an excellent job and were most informative and helpful when approached during the construction stage.

“Thanks must also go to Tone Leisure. I am informed that two sets of Boules will be held in the sports centre for all to use.
