A TRACTOR was destroyed in a fire which closed part of the main road between Wellington and Taunton on Tuesday afternoon of last week.

Fire crews were called to the scene near The Worlds End pub on the A38 at around 1pm. A dramatic image from the scene shows plumes of smoke billowing high in to the air from the fireball.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The tractor was totally destroyed by the fire. Twenty metres of hedgerow was also burnt. The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.”

The road remained blocked for about two hours with queueing traffic between the World’s End pub and Rumwell.
