THE sun shone, the children ran races, teas, cakes and ciders went down a treat, and the ducking stool and other stalls saw non-stop action as the annual Fitzhead Fete and Flower Show enjoyed a bumper day that raised £4,700.

Almost 500 people turned out to enjoy the popular fete with all profits going to the village’s St James Church and medieval Tithe Barn.

Visitors came from far and wide to enjoy the traditional event which included brass band music from Wiveliscombe Town Band and a host of fun activities – from the specially made ducking stool and children’s races to the flower show; teas and home-made cakes to a barbecue and beer tent.

There was a grand raffle and bargains galore were pounced on at a range of stalls from books and toys to jams, crafts, bric-a-brac and more.

The festivities continued the next day with a duck race in aid of the fete and flower show. Hundreds of yellow plastic ducks were raced at the fun, three-heat event, held at Holcombe Farm, where teas were also served on the lawn.
