A TRAFFIC lights scheme may be the only realistic safety proposal for an accident blackspot on the A38 between Wellington and Taunton, says a county councillor.

The idea is being considered after years of complaints by drivers from the West Buckland and Bradford-on-Tone areas, and others who use the Heatherton Grange crossroads.

An online petition started by West Buckland mother-of-four Becky Somerset has attracted 663 supporters, and she is hoping to reach 1,000 before presenting it to the county council.

Mrs Somerset, who has had two car accidents at the junction, lobbied county councillor John Thorne shortly after his election in May, and he has been looking at the issue ever since.
