Transition Town Wellington’s (TTW) Sustainable Food Group has been awarded £2,743 from the Community Food Resilience Fund.

This will enable TTW to buy a new scythe and tools, obtain signage and nitrogen-fixing shrubs for Longacre, and to create a new booklet on food that can be foraged from its communal sites.

The booklet will contain information to identify the 22 foods to be found free of charge by using the foraging map. It explains where to pick them, when they are ripe, how to prepare them and a recipe for each.

Helen Gillingham, from TTW, said: “We hope to be able to encourage more people to get out and about and use the community resources to cook and eat fresh, seasonal and local food.

“We aim to publish this over the winter, which will be especially good timing as the younger trees and bushes will be providing more to harvest by 2022.

“A big thank you goes to the Somerset Community Foundation grants team.”
