In these very wet months, and because of a larger footfall than normal, the paths around Wellington Monument are getting wider.
I know it is easier to walk on the less muddy bits but it is causing problems for the flora and fauna. So, if you could, it would be appreciated if you could stick - sorry about the pun - to the centre of the paths.
Monument volunteers and others have recently planted 100 trees around the monument to enhance the area and provide fruit for the wild birds.
The lights were switched on at the monument on Burns Night on Tuesday (January 25), as a special request. You too could have the lights switched on for a special occasion for a small donation and maybe a mention in this column.
We are also happy to organise talks on the history of the monument and surrounding area for small groups, also for a donation.
All donations go directly to the monument, and the upkeep of the land around it , which by the way is a Special Sight of Scientific Interest, due to its diverse wildlife, flora and fauna
