FAMILIES and adults are invited to help plant fruit trees at Wellington’s newest community orchard at Post Close today.
The event is organised by Transition Town Wellington’s sustainable food group and residents who live near the allotment-sized patch of ground.
Three apple trees (Egremont Russet, Fortune and James Grieve), two sweet cherries (Regina and Kordia), two plums (Victoria and Czar) and a Conference pear will be planted at the site.
It will take two to three years for the trees to bear fruit but they will provide a free resource for Wellington residents to pick from in the future.

It will be a joy to see these trees grow, blossom and bear fruit.”
The site is at Post Close, just off Barn Meads Road, TA21 9AN, and planting will get under way at 11am. Tools and materials will be supplied.
Parking is limited, so walking or cycling is advised.
