TREE SURGEONS got to work on a line of historic London Plane trees in Wellington Park on Monday, giving them a "haircut" to ensure they survive for generations to come.

The 23 planes, thought to be at least a century old, were first pollarded about 40 years ago but have not been pruned back hard since the late 1960s and experts say they are now in need of another good short back and sides to keep them in good condition.
