Coldharbour Mill is looking for new members to join its curatorial volunteer team who support the care and preservation of its collections.

The mill’s collections are of national significance.

English Heritage says: “[Coldharbour Mill] is probably one of the best-preserved textile mill complexes in the country. It retains the full range of buildings and power system features which characterised the development of the 19th Century textile mill with much of the machinery that was used at the site in the 20th Century.”

The mill’s teams help to maintain exhibits in good condition, catalogue collections, perform environmental monitoring and plan for new exhibitions, including two opening in 2021 for Coldharbour Mill Museum’s 40th anniversary.

The team works to tell the important stories of Coldharbour Mill and interprets what it features as part of the publicly-viewable collection, while also maintaining the archives so that its history can live on for generations to come.

The team meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Prospective volunteers should have an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

General manager Peter Holdway-Bradley said: “As we kick off some new projects and prepare for our 40th anniversary it will be a very exciting time to start volunteering with us.”
