WELLINGTON now has a weekly car boot sale thanks to the new committee running the town’s Conservative Club.
It is being held on Sunday mornings in the club’s car park, which has an access off the Longforth Road public car park, although it was not held this week because of Father’s Day. It coincides with the club reopening on Sunday afternoons for the first time since before the Covid pandemic.
The car park has room for about 40 stalls, although the first car boot event attracted only a handful of sellers.
One visitor who attended the first event was Wellington crafter Alice Burns, whose business Lotus Pond Creations exports hand-made works all over the world. Mrs Burns said: “Although it was a disappointing start I do think there is huge potential for this to be a success because people have been calling on social media for years for Wellington to have its own car boot event so we do not always have to drive out of town.
“The Conservative Club are definitely filling a gap in the market if they can get a few more sellers to take part so there is enough to make it interesting for local people.”
