THE scale model of the Wellesley Cinema in Wellington recently referenced in the 30 years ago section of the WWN’s From Our Files column has been on permanent display in the town museum for many years.
It is one of the most popular exhibits with residents and visitors.
The very impressive detail in the model is revealed via an opening in the side of the auditorium and via the hinged frontage – for example, every seat is individually made and the projector room is reproduced faithfully.
Many visitors are amazed the town still has a real, working, authentic 1930s cinema and everyone is delighted by the model on display.
But being so popular, and inviting to touch, the model has suffered some wear and tear over the years.
The electric wiring needs repairing – the stage curtains no longer work.
Anyone interested in refurbishing the model should call in at the museum and leave their contact details.
The museum, in The Squirrel at 28 Fore Street, is open 10am-4pm Monday to Friday and 10am-1pm Saturday, but is closed on Bank Holidays. Entry is free.
