Crew Manager John Sharland is set to retire from the fire brigade after 37 years of service.

Mr Sharland began his career as a fire fighter at Wellington station, where he started work on February 4, 1986. He remained at Wellington station as a part-time fire fighter for eleven years before signing up full time at the Taunton station on September 7, 1997.

In November 2008 John returned to Wellington station. He is now due to retire at the end of the month, on June 30.

John's began his career as a fire fighter, then went on to become a leading fire fighter on watch, and acted as a temporary sub officer in the training department.

Later John would become a crew manager, and carried out temporary watch manager duties between 2015 and 2016.

Staff at the Wellington Fire Station expressed their best wishes, saying: "John is set to leave at the end of the month from both roles to enjoy a well earned retirement. We wish him the best."
