ABOUT 30 volunteers turned out in Wellington on Saturday to take part in the Clean For the Queen event.

  A small team of people picked litter in eight of the 12 areas of the town and 32 sacks of litter were collected in a short space of time, which the DLO collected from outside the old Post Office.

Cllr Marcus Barr and his team collected five sacks of litter in the centre of Rockwell Green and Holly-Regan Jones and her team collected eight sacks around the sports centre, the Basins and at the back of Court Fields School.  

The number of dog litter bags stuffed into hedgerows, in gutters and suspended in bushes was disappointing, said organiser Cllr Bob Bowrah. “Irresponsible dog owners should be ashamed of themselves,” he added.

Wellington’s MP Rebecca Pow and Wellington Mayor Cllr Janet Lloyd opened the successful event.

Cllr Bowrah told the team another event was planned for the summer. He said it did not have to be a special occasion to attempt to make the town cleaner and brighter.
