THE Wellington in Bloom group has received much-needed funds in its hopes of keeping the town looking colourful.

The group has been successful in its application to Wellington Town Council for a grant of £1,250 towards the cost of its projects in the area.

Town clerk Greg Dyke said: “The Wellington in Bloom group has been working hard over the years to enhance the town – removing flyposting, picking up litter and encouraging residential floral displays.

“The group aims to improve the town environment to attract business, be a friendly place for residents and attract visitors.

“This year the group’s projects will include work with school and pre-schools, maintaining Lancer Court hanging baskets, supporting the Peace Garden and providing ongoing maintenance at Swains Lane Nature Reserve.

“The council has regularly supported the work of this group.”

The council was in full agreement of backing the Wellington in Bloom group with its application for grant funding when it met earlier this month.

Cllr Andrew Govier said: “This is an organisation that has a very proud record of doing a lot of good work in the town. It takes positive steps to improve the town.”

And Cllr Bob Bowrah added: “The Wellington in Bloom group needs all the support we can give it.”
