WORK on the demolition of a much-maligned public toilet block in Wellington is set to start in the next few weeks.
Members of Wellington Town Council’s policy and resources committee were told that plans for the toilet block in Longforth Road were finally moving ahead.
It has been well over a year now since a motorist crashed into the building which resulted in it being sealed off for safety reasons.
Town clerk Dave Farrow said: “Contractors are due on-site to get demolition underway within the next month.”
Plans for the rebuilding of the toilets have been in the council’s melting pot for a long time, having been discussed long before the car crash, which some had hoped would speed the situation along.
Once the current toilet block has been demolished, the council is expected to come to a final decision on what loo facilities to put there in its place.
