A FORMER house captain at Wellington School has been made a CBE in the New Year’s Honours list.

Storm Chandra to bring further flooding and disruption to South WestPaul Chivers was house captain of Darts during 1979-80 and was Petty Officer and senior cadet in the Royal Naval section of the CCF in 1979.
He joined the Royal Navy in 1981 and was twice sunk during the Falklands conflict two years later.
In 2004 he was appointed OBE in command of HMS Lancaster and in 2011 was Commanding Officer of the RNAS Yeovilton.
In 2016 he returned to school to inspect the CCF.
When the CCF naval section was founded in 1977, two of the founding cadets, Paul Chivers and Duncan Potts, both went on to become admirals.
