A Wellington based band vision themselves playing at major music events including Glastonbury Festival and eventually Eurovision, writes Sophie Leith.

Youth band ‘Slowburne’ formed in January 2023, with six members each playing a vital role. Molly Lock and Ella Pruden are the vocalists for the band with Molly also playing the keyboard. Leila Cruz and Asher Lee play the guitar, meanwhile Karylle Perocho is bass and Nicole Padilla is on the drums.

So far Slowburne have released two songs called ‘Jamboree’ and ‘Refrain’, which have been released on Spotify with the help of ActionTrack.

ActionTrack has a recording studio in Taunton which is a unique space. The studio revolves around a mix of high end analog components and state of the art digital technology. Music recorded there has been played across many big radio stations. They also run a number of educational and outreach programmes, doing essential work in supporting the young people of Somerset.

Slowburne’s band name was inspired by the fact the members slowly developed with their instruments, but that they also gradually grew as a band and as friends.

Famous bands like the Arctic Monkeys, The Cure and McFly influence their music, as they do covers of ‘Boys don’t cry’ and many more classics. They say they are also inspired by their music teacher Mr Whiteoak and their drama teacher Miss Robbins.

Slowburne have taken part in many local events such as Tyca Festival 2024 and have been involved in a number of events Court Fields School have put on — including the first ever Battle of the Bands in December 2024, which they won.

The band will be taking part in Welliestock on Saturday, July 5.

The band plans on releasing more of their music on Spotify and potentially other music apps, they also plan on playing at more local festivals in the near future.
