Members of Wellington’s Women’s institute set to work decorating the town park with knitted and crocheted Poppies which members of WI and the public had been knitting and crocheting throughout the year.
The display in the park includes poppies within the Royal British Legion Garden of Remembrance next to the town war memorial and poppy garlands covering the chains surrounding the memorial.
A new piece was added this year on top of the war memorial itself.
It was originally planned for the town to be decorated on Saturday, but the weather forecast meant the members had to work even harder to decorate the town on Friday as well, which involved poppies being wrapped around the railings on the junctions of South Street and North Street.

The memory wall from last year was put back up, sadly there has only been one new addition this year - anyone who wishes to add it is asked to put in a sealed envelope marked memory wall, Rank and name, regiment/ship/squadron, dates of birth and death along with a £2 suggested donation for the Poppy Appeal. These can be left at the Wellington Weekly offices.
The ladies also made a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. And once again the WI has also decorated the Pop-up shop with knitted and crocheted poppies for the Poppy Appeal.
RBL Wellington Branch would like to thank the members of Wellington’s Women’s institute for all the hard work they put in to create these amazing displays which truly do transform the town, park and Pop-up Shop.
