MAYOR of Taunton Deane Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams joined Wivey Link passengers to see how the transport scheme works.

She travelled throughout the morning with passengers who were picked up in Wiveliscombe, then travelled to Cotford St Luke, Bishops Lydeard and finally Taunton.

The driver was Charles Absolum, one of the original ‘old and bold’ drivers who has been a volunteer driver for Wivey Link for about 14 years.

Wivey Link, the much-valued 10 Parishes community transport scheme, serves an area covering more than 30 parishes and its three distinctive red cars are seen frequently travelling through the Deane.

The Mayor said: “Wivey Link’s wonderful! Giving the chance to people who don’t have transport is an excellent scheme – there should be Wivey Links everywhere.”

The Mayor saw for herself how useful the service is to those who need transport, those who have to use disability aids and those who simply live where there are no bus services. She also took the opportunity to make a call at the community office in the centre of Wiveliscombe, Wivey Link’s home where she met staff, directors and volunteers.

Wivey Link is managed by the Wiveliscombe Area Partnership, a charity whose aim is to combat rural isolation and enable the 10 Parishes to thrive.
