FOUR of the five generations of Mildred Trevelyan’s family came together to celebrate her 100th birthday with an afternoon tea party in the Beambridge Inn, near Wellington, on Monday (June 29).

The younger children were unable to travel to be at the birthday bash for a great-great-grandmother who still has ‘a wicked sense of humour’.

Mrs Trevelyan, who lives in Westleigh, has been a regular customer for more than 20 years of the Beambridge, which is run by Karen and Craig Holmes, because she said the couple always made her ‘feel so special’.

Mrs Homes said: “She is delightful and has a fantastic sense of humour.

“She is just a really, really lovely, special, lady whom we have known for many years.”

Mrs Trevelyan was born in 1926 in Taunton, and moved to Huntsham and then Holcombe Rogus before settling in Westleigh, where she met her husband Lionel.

The couple were married in 1950, and Mr Trevelyan died in 2009.

Mrs Trevelyan worked in the dye and finishing works of Wellington’s Tonedale Mill, now known as the Toneworks, until it eventually closed down, and then took a job with Tiverton Poultry Packers until her retirement at the age of 60.

She has three children Denise, Celia, who is known as Sid, and Peter, and six grandchildren, Marc, Shaun, Natasha, Luke, Kye, and Shelley.

There are also 10 great-grandchildren, Elyse, Amber, Sasha, Tyler, Ollie, Nikita, Alexa, Theo, Kaia, and Ayla-Maeve, as well as six great-great-grandchildren, Lila, Levi, Theo, Ollie, Aaliyah, and Skye.

Mrs Trevelyan’s daughter Sid said the party had been an opportunity for her to see grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she only saw occasionally.

The party was held in the Beambridge because Mrs Trevelyan used to have a meal there every Saturday until the Covid pandemic spoiled the routine, but she still went there for family occasions.
