WORK is under way on the new Isambard Kingdom Brunel (IKB) primary school on the Longforth Farm estate on the edge of Wellington.
The school will open its doors to pupils in September 2020, with places for 30 Reception youngsters initially and an accompanying nursery provision.
The new headteacher will be appointed in October and be ready to take up their post in the New Year, so everything will be in place for the first cohort.
The school, being built due to increasing pupil numbers in Wellington, will continue to expand until it reaches full capacity by 2027, when it will offer 420 places for pupils across Reception and Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
IKB will be the fourth school in the Castle Partnership Trust, alongside The Castle School, Taunton, and Court Fields, Wellington, secondary schools, and Wellesley Park Primary School in Wellington.
Parents with children going into Reception next September are invited to attend information evenings about IKB at Court Fields on Thursday, September 26, at 6pm, and Wellington Baptist Church Hall on Thursday, October 3, at 6pm.
The events will give parents the opportunity to Continued from front page

“The Trust is committed to the principle that every child will feel that they belong, that they are important and contribute in their own unique way as well as collectively; building a positive, enthusiastic and supportive community.
“The Trust is committed to building strong relationships with the community and we welcome your help and support in building a school that provides a secure and stimulating learning environment. The team of staff, parents, governors and pupils will work together to create a school in which pupils are able to discover their individual brilliance.”
Sarah Watson, executive headteacher of the Castle Partnership Trust, said: “We are an innovative and forward-thinking Trust and we are always striving to find ways to develop and strengthen our schools. We look forward to welcoming IKB’s first Reception pupils in September.”
