AN 11-year-old Wellington girl has helped raise more than £800 for a cancer charity by swimming 50 lengths.

Emily Wright, of The Brambles in the town, undertook the arduous feat in memory of her friend, Tori Tucker, nine, of Aller, Langport, who died of a brain tumour in 2006.

Emily was joined for the sponsored swim by Tori's brother, George, who swam 30 lengths.

Andy Wright, Emily's dad, said: "Tori and Emily were good buddies and had lots of fun together.

"Emily is a very keen swimmer, being a member of Wellington Swimming Club, and she wanted to do something in memory of Tori, and raise funds for Hammer Out Brain Tumours, the local charity which gave so much support to Tori's family during her illness."

The pair took half-an-hour to complete their swim.
