WELLINGTON and District Sports Federation, the umbrella group for sport in the town, is approaching its AGM with a full agenda of topics and business to consider for the year ahead, writes David Derrick.

The major piece of work that the Federation is involved with at this time is being part of the groups that are driving the development and progression of the Taunton Deane Borough Council Sports Pitch Strategy, specifically with the view to giving Wellington the facilities that it needs and deserves for sport to be able grow and nurture talent. Such a Strategy will deliver tangible benefits and through collaborative working processes progress is been achieved already with local clubs and educational establishments alike set to benefit from bigger and better facilities.

Towards the end of 2017 the federation was able to confirm it had been successful in its application for a grant to site the defibrillator that had been jointly funded by the FA through the Western Football League and Wellington’s Football and Cricket Clubs at Wellington Playing Field;  a further donation from a private benefactor will see this matter come to fruition very soon.

Membership subscriptions will be the subject of a modest rise of £5 per club from this year’s AGM and such are payable on the evening.

The AGM takes place at Wellington AFC on Wednesday, January 31, with a 8pm start.
