ALL THE indoor leagues are highly competitive at Wellington Bowling Club but, none more so, than in the Men's League.
This week all eight teams have fought it out to improve their positions in the table.
Second placed Bowlsheviks beat top team Fun Loving Lads. Bottom of the table Hemyock beat high flying Vikings. Newbees were pipped at the post by Spoofers and Welly came good in their battle against Cavaliers
The big game was between the two top teams. Ken Austin's Fun Loving Lads set off at pace and were leading 6 – 2 after five ends. Then Roy Marriott's Bowlsheviks caught up and after nine ends the teams were level on 11 shots each.
Not content with just drawing level, the Bolsheviks showed no mercy and powered on to win all the remaining ends and complete a storming victory by 19 shots to 11.
No-one really expected John Bendle's Hemyock to do well against the higher placed Vikings but they played well and deserved a good victory.
Eddie Dilley's Vikings did their best but they were always chasing the game and although they managed a few shots Hemyock were the team in form and they won it convincingly 16 – 4.
The game between third placed Spoofers and fourth place Newbees was a much closer contest. Nick Channon's Newbees began well and led 3 – 1 after four ends. After that it was a closely fought match. They were level on 4 – 4 after six ends but Darren Sparks' Spoofers pulled ahead to ensure a close victory 12 – 8.
Alan May's Cavaliers were a happy team after three ends because they led 5 – 1 but Graham Brown's Welly soon settled into their game. They quickly overtook and moved on to win it comfortably 16 – 8.
