WELLINGTON Bowling Club's Lions and Pumas played at home last week while the Tigers were away at Exmouth - with the teams enjoying mixed fortunes.
Lions gained a very good win while Tigers and Pumas fought well but lost despite their best efforts.
Pete Nichols, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves' Lions set off at a good pace and it was a while before their Okehampton opponents got going. Lions led 12 – 1 after eight ends and although Okehampton picked up their game it was too late and the Wellington team won 19 – 11.
On the next rink the Okehampton trio were up for a game and it was pretty even early on but Jay Merrell, Paul Kelly and skip Graham Brown's Lions settled down and scored some really good shots to win comfortably 29 – 8.
The final score was a win on both rinks to the Lions and an overall victory by 48 shots to Okehampton's 19.
Pumas were not so fortunate in their home games against Sidmouth Snappers. Ron Elston, Geoff Stamp and skip Ian Stewart were always playing catch-up bowls and lost by five shots, 17 – 12.
Trevor Jenkins, Tony Woollard and skip Arthur Carter faired little better. They lost 26 – 14 which gave the Snappers a comfortable victory, 46 – 21.
Wellington's Tigers were away to Phear Park, Exmouth and they struggled to play on the Exmouth green which was very different from their own.
Derek Vile, Ian Hollingsworth and skip David Beaudet chased the game hard but lost in the end 17 – 12. Mike Connor, Henry Richbell and skip Tony Gibson did all they could but the Exmouth trio won 20 – 13. The overall score was Exmouth 37, Wellington, 25.
Wellington won one and lost two but everyone enjoyed their game.
