ROCKWELL Green shortmat bowlers played away to Staplegrove in the second leg of the summer contest over six mats, with the Green only holding a four-lead.

The Green took a strong team and when things did get underway Mat (1) (Green names first ) Mick ,John Y & Bill faced only two Staplegrove players Paul & John . The Staplegrove pair went away like a train to be 10-1 up after 7 ends. The Green pulled it back to 7-10 with one to play but the Staplegrove pair held the last end to record a 11-7 victory.

Mat (2) Sid, Dave & Bob just managed to stay in front of Pat , Dave & Ron , with neither side unable to gain more than 2 shots on any end, thus gaining a 8-4 away win .

Mat (3) Graham, Reg & Mike R went well to be 7--2 up after 5 ends against Sue , Heather & Sue L. The ladies fought back to only be 7-5 down after 8 ends; a 2 on end 9 rather made the game safe for the Green who won 9-6, to hold a three-shot lead at half time.

The restart Mat (4 ) saw Mick, John Y & Bill take on two ladies Pat & Sue. The Green trio found form & raced into a 11-3 lead after 7 ends. Staplegrove did gain 3 shots on two ends but a 2 on the last end saw the Green triumph 13-6 . Mat (5 ) Sid ,Dave D & Bob played Sue L ,Ron ,& Heather. In a tight game Green eventually pulled away to win 10-5.

Last up on Mat (6 ) Graham, Reg & Mike R were caught by surprise by John ,Dave & Paul who went into a early lead 6-2 after 7 ends , but the Green came storming back to dominate the last three ends to gain a 14-6 success.

Overall, Green won 61-38 and by 27 shots over the two legs.
