FOR their third match in six days, Rockwell Green shortmat bowlers made the short trip to Oake for a six-mat contest against Oake Tree, their first visit in two years.

First up (Green names first) Graham, Reg & David G enjoyed a tight match against Trevor, Joy & Mick with neither side gaining an advantage and ending in a tie, 7 shots each.

Mat 2 saw Dave D, Cedric & Brian take a early lead of 6—2 after 6 ends against Stella, Rod & David, but the Oake trio fought back over the last 4 ends to overhaul the Green & take the match 10—6.

Last up before the break, Christine, Bill & Vickie found Steve, Martin & Mike in fine form. The Green held a 4—2 advantage after 5 ends but that was as good as it got. The Oake trio romped the last 5 ends for a 13—4 victory. Oake led 30-17 at the bread.

The restart saw Graham, Reg & Martin matched with Cherry, Sue & Trevor. Oake started well to hold an 8—3 lead after 6 ends but the Green trio came back strongly to almost snatch it, but the Oake trio held on for a 9—8 win.

Next Dave D, Cedric & Brian against Mick, Joy & David M. The Green were holding their own after 4 ends, but from there on the wheel came off. They went down to the biggest defeat of the evening, 16—6.

Last up Christine, Bill & Mike met Steve, David G & Vickie. The Green trio found form as they shot into a 7—0 lead after 5 ends. The Oake trio started a fightback, but it was too little, too late, with the Green coming out on top, 8—5. An overall victory for Oake 60—39. The Green were indebted to Oake for the loan of players as the Green turned up short.
