WELLINGTON Bowling Club fielded three teams in the Mixed Triples League this week with A and B teams enjoying success at home while the C team were away.
The A team were the heroes for Wellington, winning on all three rinks while the B team also did very well, winning two out of three for an overall victory.
Unfortunately for Wellington, their C team lost their away match against Williton.
Graham Brown, Paul Kelly and Julian Street's A team played well against Taunton Deane A but they had a fight on their hands. They were 7 – 9 down at the halfway stage but they overtook and pulled ahead to win by three shots 15 – 12.
Darren Sparks, Jay Merrell and Mike Groves also found it hard. They were losing in the first half but they came back in style to win comfortably 20 – 13.
On the last rink, Peter Barlow, Gill Groves and Nick Channon played well from the start. They bowled consistently and accurately to stay ahead of the Taunton side to win 20 – 13. The overall result was a resounding victory to Wellington's A team by 55 shots to 38.
Playing alongside them on their home green, the B team also bowled extremely well. Roger Murphy, Andy Dart and Tony Gibson's Bs were up against their Taunton Deane's counterparts. The Taunton side were strong but the Wellington trio took an early lead and retained it until the end. The final score was a win to Wellington by 20 shots to Taunton's 11.
Mark Bond, Ian Hollingsworth and David Beaudet's Tigers put up a good fight. With four ends to play the teams were level on 12 shots each but the Taunton side pulled ahead in the final ends to pinch it on the line 18 – 13.
Barry Cutler, Henry Richbell and Christine Willcocks were aware they had to do well if Wellington were to win it overall.
They had no need to worry because although the Taunton side picked up one shot in the fifth end, it was the last shot they scored all match. The final score was Wellington 31, Taunton 1. The overall score was a fine win to the Wellington B side by 64 shots to 30.
Phil Wiggan, Tony Weston and Shirley Samuel's C team were doing well initially. They were 6 – 4 up against a strong Williton B team who were on their home turf but as the game progressed the home side’s threesome overtook and pulled ahead to take a fairly comfortable victory by 22 shots to 12.
Andrew Copping, Angie Moore and Andrew Baird were finding it difficult to get used to their opponents green. They were 12 – 6 down after 13 ends but they fought back hard and were only five shots down at the end. The Williton side won by 18 shots to 13.
On the last rink, Wendy Scott, Ron Elston and Ken Brown also had a fight on their hands. Their opponents were bowling very well and despite their best efforts the Wellington trio couldn't catch them and Williton won it 18 – 13.
The Wellington team were made very welcome by their hosts who gave them a nice tea which made the evening a very pleasant occasion despite losing on the green.
