A SUNNY afternoon saw two teams of Wellington's Lions take on two of Sidmouth's Sharks at home in a ‘big bowling battle.’
Julian Street, Graham Brown and skip Paul Kelly's team could not get going at all to start with. They picked up three shots in the first end but for the next nine it was all Sidmouth and by the tenth the Sharks led 12 shots to 3.
Fortunately, on the next rink, Mike Copping, Pete Nichols and skip Mike Groves' Lions were hungry for a good result and by the tenth they led the Sidmouth sharks by 12 shots to 5.
So after ten ends the overall score was 17 to Sidmouth, 15 to Wellington.
With only eight ends to go, Paul Kelly's team got down to some serious bowling from then on but with just one end left they were still one shot behind the Sidmouth team, 13 – 14.
It all depended on the last end and Paul Kelly's trio came up trumps taking 3 shots to make their final score 16 – 14.
On the other rink, Mike Groves' side kept up the pressure and it was the Wellington trio who came home victorious by 22 shots to 10 to win the match 38 shots to 24.
