WELLINGTON SUNDAY XI 233-8

MOREBATH SUNDAY XI 98

WELLINGTON Sunday XI paid a visit to West Somerset League Division Two club Morebath last weekend and came away with a 135-run win, writes David Derrick.

Morebath asked Wellington to bat when they won the toss and had an early success as the Red and Blacks were 15-1 but Oli Beale and Ben Evett added 120 for the second wicket as both played energetic knocks.

Beale made 52 with two sixes as he played to leg well and all the time Evett was going through the gears to post a debut 100 for Wellington that saw him lift the ball out of the ground four times.

Ollie Hunt with 21, Des Campbell with 23 – two sixes – and the lower order pushed Wellington to 233-8 at the end of their 40 overs as Morebath rallied with the ball, Timmis taking 3-26.

A decent opening stand of 28 between Blake and Dobson saw Morebath start well but when he was caught in the slips by Ben Evett the game was going towards Wellington with Arron Campbell taking 4-22 in six overs and Tyler Fyfe claiming one wicket.

Oli Beale and Evett once again claimed catches late on and Wellington were running through the Morebath line up with Ollie Hunt taking 2-5 in five good overs and Connor Wickenden 1-25 in six overs, his left arm spin continuing to prosper in 2020. The game ended with Alex Derbridge and Will Derrick in possession of the ball with ten overs going unused by Morebath.

Wellington’s next game is at Bishops Lydeard on Sunday, August 30, when they travel to play Wombat CC in another non-league game which starts at 1.30pm.
