Administrator David Derrick says the cricket season is not likely to start before the beginning of July at the earliest.

He said: “The same limitations that curtailed the 2019-20 seasons for rugby and football, among other sporting and leisure pursuits, will see that the start of the 2020 cricket season will not commence on time.

“Given that professional cricket in the UK is not going to take place until at least Thursday, May 28 – a date which aligns with 12 weeks from the start of the lockdown being put in place – I think it fair to assume there will be no, or at least very little, ‘first half’ of the season as was scheduled.

“I am aware that all league and cup organisers at senior and junior levels are monitoring all Government and governing body advice at this time and are using this to make management proposals that will be suitable to all concerned in respect of this situation in financial and operational terms.

“It is hoped that some sort of season for 2020 can be supplied but for now a start no earlier than early July looks on the cards.”
